We it comes to leather you really are best off with a sealant to resist the build up of oils, dirt and spills from the daily use. 
Newer leather has the advantage of not being exposed to all the years of constant usage and so it is recommended to ceramic coat them.
Older leather has already been through a tough life even if the usage is lower it has still had to deal with constant changes in temperature, humidity and UV rays from the sun giving them a ceramic coating may be a little bit over the top but you can still protect them!
